The Organisation for Tourism and Hospitality Management (OTHM) - Travel, Tourism and Hospitality Management


The Organisation for Tourism and Hospitality Management (OTHM) is designed to provide a programme of professional qualifications within the industry who wish to gain the necessary qualifications and theoretical awareness to advance their career or operations.

OTHM has a key relationship with London South Bank University allowing holders of the OTHM Level 6 Professional Higher Diploma to have direct entry to the final year of London South Bank University's Batchelor's degree programme BA (Hons) in Tourism and Hospitality.

Students who have successfully completed the OTHM Professional Higher Diploma and who have two year's management experience in the tourism and hospitality industry are eligible to apply for entry to London South Bank University's MSc programme.

OTHM qualifications progress through four levels and can lead to degree level study. The level you start on depends on the qualifications and experience that you have. The level you reach depends on your determination and aspirations.


Levels

Entry Requirements

Introductory Certificate (Level 3)

Assessment

2 hour exam comprising:
  1. 30 multiple choice questions and
  2. 2 essay type questions

Grades will be allocated according to the OTHM grade table.
Progression
On passing the OTHM Introductory Certificate Members will be eligible to be considered for OTHM Level 4 Professional Certificate course

Individuals who wish to commence or have commenced work in the tourism and hospitality industry + English language competencey of IELTS 5.0.
NB: If concurrent English language tuition is offered it is recommended that students have IELTS 5.0 at the beginning of the course and IELTS 6.0 by the completion of the course.

Professional Certificate (Level 4)

  • OTHM/CER01-Introduction to Travel, Tourism and Hospitality
  • OTHM/CER02-Introduction to the Business Environment
  • OTHM/CER03 – Introduction to Business Communication and Customer Care
  • OTHM/CER04 – Introduction to Business and Finance
  • Holders of OTHM Introductory Certificate or
  • 5 GCSE's or 5 O'Levels or equivalent or
  • Equivalent academic qualifications or
  • Mature students with at least 5 year's relevant experience

Professional Diploma (Level 5)

Part I

  • OTHM/DIP01 – Tourism Marketing and Management
  • OTHM/DIP02 – Hospitality Marketing and Management
  • OTHM/DIP03 – Human Resource Management

Part II

  • OTHM/DIP04 – Tourism and Hospitality Operations Management
  • OTHM/DIP05 – Financial Management and Information Systems
  • OTHM/DIP06 – Customer Relations and the Business Environment
  • Holders of OTHM Professional Certificate or
  • Equivalent academic qualifications or
  • Mature students with a minimum of 8 year's relevant experience including 3 year's management experience

+ English Language Competency (IELTS 6.0)

* Holders of OTHM Professional Diploma can apply for Associate Member status.

Professional Higher Diploma (Level 6)

Part I

  • OTHM/HID01–Marketing Communications for Tourism and Hospitality
  • OTHM/HID02 – International Tourism and Hospitality Business Environment
  • OTHM/HID03 – Corporate Business Strategy and Finance

Part II

  • OTHM/HID04 – Management Information Systems
  • OTHM/HID05– Strategic Human Resource Management
  • OTHM/HID06 – Project: Operations Management in the Business Environment
  • Holders of OTHM Professional Diploma or equivalent or
  • 1st Degree or HND/HNC or equivalent

+ English Language Competency (IELTS 6.0)

* Holders of OTHM Higher Diploma can apply for Member status.
